Medicare Part D Gap!

Humana headquarters in Louisville, KYImage via Wikipedia
With the state of the economy and so many people out of work, many are going without prescription coverage.  It was interesting to me today to find that there is insurance that covers the gap that most people are experiencing in their prescription coverage. I have been paying the full price for my prescriptions for 2 months now and today as I was talking to a customer service rep at AARP about my new coverage that begins in April, he found that I was covered by a company that is called "Limited Income Net." It is Humana Insurance and they cover people that are without insurance, and that may receive extra help from state agencies.
I was so relieved, but that isn't even the best part, they are reimbursing me for the amount of out of pocket expenses for my prescriptions during this gap.  It not enough of as blessing that I am again covered, but to also reimburse me, my cup runneth over.
If you know anyone that has been hurt by the gap in prescription coverage it is worth your effort to mention this to them.  You may save someone's life.  Going without necessary medication should never be an option, don't let it be for you or anyone you know. The pharmacy I use did not even know about this!
All I have been seeing about Humana is that they are cutting 2,500 jobs, but they are still offering this coverage so why are they laying off people?
In any event, tell people you know that have this gap min their prescription coverage, it can only help them.  If this helps just one other person, it'll make my day!  Pass it on!

ABLE AND WILLING

450 mm by 450 mm (18 in by 18 in) Handicapped ...Image via Wikipedia

I spent a good deal of my day today researching opportunities for people with disabilities. It is necessary for me to gain knowledge about what resources are available to businesses to train and hire persons with disabilities. I am in the early stages of creating a business that is to become a place for persons with disabilities, to use their artistic skills to make a living either by working for another company or becoming Entrepreneurs and creating their own product or business. Along the way today I ran across some really great web sites. I was very much taken with this particular web site called "Able and Willing" an untapped pool of talent. There are some wonderful stories about mentoring and internships. It gives me hope when I found people willing to make the world a better place for those with disabilities. Check out the video on that site, it's really inspirational.

Persons whose disabilities are not visible are finding it so difficult, STILL to be around people in the workplace that don't treat them as peers. It is really important to help all people find employment and the more resources we offer to employees and employers that accommodate and accept everyone, the closer we are to accepting all people as equals across the board. Too many people are wasting their time on the business of others and not paying attention to what is going on around them. These are the "kind" of people that are unaware how difficult, but awe inspiring, it is to see someone with a disability maintain job performance equal to theirs. We all must learn to become more aware of what is around us and to become more accepting of everyone.

SAVE THE CHILDREN

Our Children are this country's most valuable asset. Nothing means more to parents, teachers, doctors, nurses and the like, than children. Nothing...Keep them safe. This is not a time like we were raised in. We never had to worry about being kidnapped or taken away or getting lost. But today, all of those things are at risk. We must protect our children and we can do it by creating safety nets for them. Always know where they are and who they are with.

Helping to keep our children safe is a company that knows how; and whose business it is, to do just that. Check out Brickhouse Security and safeguard the lives of our families.

THE DAILY STRENGTH STORE IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

Bipolar and ProudImage via WikipediaTHE DAILYSTRENGTH STORE IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

You may have seen DS shirts and baby clothes in various photos around the site. Now you can have your very own DS shirts, bags, and even undies. We've opened a store here. You can customize your items by adding a slogan or anything you can think of. The first custom slogan was created yesterday: Bipolar and Proud of It!

The store is hosted by SpreadShirt.com, which we chose because of its fantastic customer service track record, high-quality printing process, and excellent product quality. Spreadshirt handles all processing of the orders, and keep names and addresses private...even we don't see it. And they, of course, do not see any usernames!

Fwd: Help Us Improve Supportive Housing!

Help Us Improve Supportive Housing!

April 25, 2008

HR 5772 Proposes Innovative Section 811 Demonstration Program and Includes Long Overdue Reforms to Existing Section 811 Program

NAMI and our colleague disability advocacy organizations in the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities Housing Task Force (CCD Housing Task Force) and the Technical Assistance Collaborative (TAC) are pleased to announce that important legislation to spur investment in permanent supportive housing has been introduced in Congress.  The bill, known as the Frank Melville Supportive Housing Investment Act of 2008 (HR 5772), was introduced by Congressman Chris Murphy (D- CT) and Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R – IL).  The bill is named in honor of the late Frank Melville, a longtime member of NAMI Connecticut, and the first board President of the Melville Charitable Trust – a leading force in promoting supportive housing for people with severe disabilities.

This ground-breaking legislation proposes important and significant changes and improvements to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program.  The bill would authorize a new Section 811 Demonstration Program that fulfills the promise of true community integration as envisioned in the Americans with Disabilities Act, and would enact long over-due reforms and improvements to the existing Section 811 production program essential for the program's long-term viability. These changes will provide states and localities with a new infusion of critically needed Section 811 capital and project-based rent subsidy funding to produce more permanent supported housing.

Act Now!

Contact Congress today and urge your House member to cosponsor HR 5772.  Help us address the enormous housing crisis faced by millions of extremely low income people with disabilities.
