Ask your legislators to increase funding for MEFAP!

Dear Friends,

The Greater Boston Food Bank a member of Feeding America needs your support!

Hunger in America can be solved. It takes leadership and political will. Ending hunger will require that the public and private sectors join in a determined partnership to address the economic, political, and personal barriers that contribute to hunger. In addition to making a financial contribution, volunteering and/or donating food, we need you to let your representatives in government know that you also want them to be engaged in solving the issue.

Please join us for the fourth annual Hunger Day on the Hill event on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, in Nurses Hall, at the Massachusetts State House in Boston. This is an opportunity to share the importance of the Massachusetts Emergency Food Assistance Program (MEFAP) and the need to INCREASE MEFAP in 2009 with the senators and representatives who are responsible for funding it.

Given the rising demand for food, more than 464,000 people need our help. We are requesting increases in the Core Food line item (DFA 2511 0105) from $12 million to $15 million and Operating Support line item (DOE 7051 0015) from $1.2 million to $1.5 million.
