Walk info. and Autism Awareness Month

If you have already registered for the 2009 Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism, thank you!  If you have not, please visit www.walknowforautism.org/greaterboston today.

Unable to attend?

If you will be out of town, or have another commitment on Sunday, October 18th, you can still register and be a "virtual walker"!  Yes, you can participate even if you can't physically attend on Walk day.  Let friends, family, co-workers, etc. know, for example, "We'll be away in FL during the weekend of the Walk Now for Autism, so we're planning to walk in Disney World instead!" or create another scenario and ask for their support for autism research, awareness, and family services, in honor of your family or team.

Facebook, MySpace, etc.

Post a link to your personal Walk fundraising page or your team page on those great social networking sites.  You can event create an "event" to invite people to join your team.  Also, why not add a signature line to your e-mail with your webpage link?  If you need assistance with these or other ways to promote your participation, please feel free to contact us at greaterboston@autismspeaks.org.

April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day and
April is Autism Awareness Month

Want to help promote autism awareness in your community?  We can help you.  Let us know if you would like some materials to display in your local library or at a table in your community.

Get your area schools involved.  Ask if you can create an awareness display case or information area.  Present them with a free School Community Tool Kit available at: http://www.autismspeaks.org/community/family_services/school_kit.php.  This guide is a wonderful resource for all members of the school community - from administrators to lunch staff and beyond.  If you would like someone to come and speak to school staff about this autism toolkit, please feel free to contact us.  Call 617-924-1225.

Write a letter to the editor of your town's newspaper explaining that April is Autism Awareness Month and why that is significant to you and your family.  These letter placements (and any stories that might follow) are incredibly valuable in educating your community about autism.

Ask a local business that you frequent if they will do a "Puzzle Piece Campaign" for the month of April.  We are happy to provide you with free posters and individual "pieces" to "sell."  All the business owner has to do is collect $1 (or more) and display the pieces around the store, restaurant, etc.  This gives them great community support visibility and is a great fundraiser for your personal or team efforts.

We are here to support your efforts.  E-mail greaterboston@autismspeaks.org or call 617-924-1225 to
discuss your ideas.
