2. NAMIWalks - Exploding Across America, Raising Community Awareness

As NAMIWalks for the Mind of America enters its 7th year with 80 Walks and a goal of $8.5 million, 2009 will be the biggest and best year ever for the nation's premier mental health public awareness campaign.

Beginning in a few weeks with 2009's first Walks in Tempe and Tucson and continuing until November, it is expected that more than 100,000 walkers and NAMI supporters will participate this year in one of the fastest growing Walk programs in the country. With the addition of new Walks in Tallahassee, Denver, Flagstaff, Ft. Worth and Ft. Wayne, this year more than 450 affiliates across the country will receive funding by participating in NAMIWalks program. This growth in resources will help family and consumer advocates provide education, advocacy and support programs at a time when NAMI is needed more than ever before.
