The Death Penalty and Mental Illness: A NAMI Seminar

2009 NAMI National Convention

All About The Convention Welcome Center

NAMI Welcome CenterNAMI is pleased to announce that ValueOptions, which has sponsored the Welcome Center for many years, will do so again this year.

The Welcome Center offers convention goers a quiet place to relax, network with others, get tips on effectively using the Internet, and talk with peer counselors about their convention experience.

As one attendee commented after last year's convention, "The Welcome Center was great. I really appreciated having a welcoming respite from the hustle bustle of the convention."

Prevention, Not Execution: Eliminating the Death Penalty for People with Severe Mental Illness

MVFHROn Monday night July 6, NAMI will present a special seminar in conjunction with Murder Victims Families for Human Rights (MVFHR).

Families of victims, and of people who have been executed, will talk candidly about their experiences and articulate their reasons for opposing the death penalty for people with severe mental illnesses.

NAMI and MVFHR are working together to promote legislation to eliminate the death penalty as an option in cases involving individuals with severe mental illnesses and to advocate for better mental health treatment and services before criminal justice involvement occurs.

Cool

Button Up Your Booties... It Is Gonna Be A Cold One Out ThereUnlike most of California, San Francisco is cool in July.

High temperatures average in the mid-60's while the night brings an average low temperature of 50.

It's a nice break from the heat and humidity of typical July weather. So be sure to bring something warm to wear - and remember, hotel meeting rooms are often cool at the beginning of each day.
